Where Are My Automatic Save Files? by Rick Ellis

Most people don’t think about their Automatic Save files until they need them.  Then the first question is “Where are my Automatic Save files anyway?”  By default they are stored in the Windows temp directory.  This is usually: C:Documents and Settings”User Name”Local SettingsTemp

Since this is the temporary directory that Windows uses you will need to sort through all of the Windows temporary files to find your Automatic Save file.  To simplify this you can change the path that AutoCAD saves the Automatic Save files in by going to the Files tab in the AutoCAD Options dialog box.  Here you can change the path to something more obvious as shown below.  Then you won’t have to worry about locating your Automatic Save files when you need them.
